AFL NewsNORTH Melbourne draftee Ryan Clarke hasn’t played an AFL game, but he’s done enough already to earn a one-year contract extension.

Taken with pick 31 from TAC Cup club Eastern Ranges, Clarke is now locked away at Arden Street until at least the end of 2018.

“I’m really stoked,” Clarke said.

“It just shows that the club has faith in me, so hopefully a few of the other first-years (can re-sign) as well. I think we’re all travelling pretty well.”

Clarke is working closely with star midfielders Ben Cunnington and Jack Ziebell as he looks to fast-track his development.

“‘Cunners’ is that big-bodied inside midfielder and then ‘Ziebs’ is someone who pushes forward, so I try to learn off them as much as possible,” Clarke said.

“And they’ve been awesome. When we’re doing game sense (drills), at stoppages they will stop and help me out, so it’s been good.”

North Melbourne opens its NAB Challenge campaign against St Kilda in Wangaratta on Saturday.
