PORT Adelaide will go retro to open 2016

The Power, who are entering their 20th season in the AFL, will wear a replica of the jumper they wore against Collingwood in Round 1, 1997 in the clash with St Kilda at Adelaide Oval.

“It was a very special moment running out onto the MCG that day knowing that you were representing the past and present Port Adelaide community who had worked so hard for us to enter the AFL,” Brayden Lyle, who captained Port Adelaide in the absence of inaugural skipper Gavin Wanganeen, said.

“This guernsey is a huge part of Port Adelaide’s history. Not only is it the first guernsey we wore in the AFL but it’s also the guernsey we wore when we beat the Crows in the first Showdown.

“I’ll be very proud to see the current Port Adelaide team take this guernsey into a new era when they run onto Adelaide Oval in Round 1 against St Kilda.”
