AN initiative from Drysdale to turn on the lights at its Mortimer Oval base allowing locals to exercise after dark, has caught on around the region.

Starting last night, the Hawks flicked the lights on between 5:30-8:00pm and will continue to do so every weeknight of lockdown for locals living within a 5km radius of the ground.

“Please feel free to use the community ovals for your exercise time or just a relaxing walk with the family, and feel free to take your footy with you,” a post on the club’s Facebook page said.

Since Drysdale unveiled its plans, Grovedale, Bannockburn, Newcomb, Queenscliff, Ocean Grove, Torquay, St Albans and Bell Park are among the clubs to do similar.
