FOR nearly nine years Joel and Scott Selwood had been apart, so the chance to spend some time together when the younger of the brothers found himself at Geelong was they both eagerly awaited.

They just didn’t expect it to be in the rehab room together.

Scott knew his ankle would take some time after an off-season reconstruction, however Joel’s plantar fasciitis has brought them together on a more regular basis.

“We’ve probably spent a hell of a lot more time together than what we thought we were going to,” Joel said as the pair were named ambassadors for the Australian Formula One Grand Prix to be held in Melbourne from March 17-20.

“We’ve both spent a lot of time in rehab throughout the summer.”

Joel has wiped out any chance of playing in the NAB Challenge, instead turning his focus to the season opener against Hawthorn on Easter Monday (March 28).

“(I’m) feeling pretty good. I understand I’ve got a fair bit of work to do to get up to match fitness and playing fitness, but well on the way,”

“I’m very confident I’ll be there Round 1, but I’ve still got a lot of work to do in saying that.”

The timeline for Scott’s return is a little bit more flexible.

“If it was NAB, it would be very late, and to be honest with you, it’s not even something we’re focussing on at the moment, it’s moreso just getting through the weeks and assessing it.

“It all just changes quickly for me at the moment.”

Joel admits after some solid running in early January he has taken a step back slightly.

“I stepped back, but in a week’s time I reckon I’ll be straight back to where I was, and doing a little bit more,” he said.

“I’m feeling better as I get out in the morning, but it’s just one of those injuries that can pop-up, it can hang around, but I am feeling much better.”
