TRIPLE-premiership-winning Geelong midfielder James Kelly looks set to become Essendon’s second top-up signing.

Kelly, who was delisted by the Cats after 273 games following the 2015 season, was resigned to retirement before the Bombers situation came to a head.

The 32-year-old visited Essendon’s Tullamarine headquarters this morning.

He will join former Fremantle tagger Ryan Crowley – who was unveiled yesterday as a signing – in adding much-needed experience to the Bombers list.

Like Crowley, Kelly was drafted from the Calder Cannons, with the pair playing together at TAC Cup level in 2001.

Essendon still has room for eight more additions, with Kelly’s fellow former Cats Mathew Stokes and Jonathan Simpkin – who also played in a premiership at Hawthorn – also in contention.
