GEELONG captain Joel Selwood looks set to be a Cat for life after signing a two-year contract extension.

Selwood, who had a five-year deal that expires at the end of next year, will wear the Hoops until at least the conclusion of the 2019 season, when he will be 31.

The inspirational leader, whose 2016 pre-season has been slowed by a plantar fasciitis, has played 204 games for the Cats since being taken with pick seven in the 2006 National Draft.

He played a key role in the premierships of 2007, 09 and 11, is a three-time club best and fairest and four-time All-Australian.

“Joel is an outstanding leader of our club, the ultimate professional, and we are really pleased to have extended his services over the next four seasons,” Cats’ football boss Steve Hocking said.

“His list of accolades speak for themselves and his work ethic and determination is admired by his teammates and coaches.

“Both Joel and the club are pleased to get this arrangement agreed so quickly and it seems almost certain now that Joel will spend his entire career with the Cats.

“Joel has enjoyed a great deal of success already in his career, but it’s clear that he is hungry to achieve even more in the coming years.”

Selwood will speak to the media later today.
