ANY hopes of Joel and Scott Selwood playing together for the first time at Geelong in Round 1 are over.

The younger brother, who had a third ankle reconstruction the week after joining the Cats in October from West Coast, is still to join the main training group.

“I’ve wasted away a lot of my muscles in my feet and my calf, so I’m just trying to regain them at the moment,” Scott told K rock’s Departure Lounge.

“It’s probably going to take a little bit longer than what we would hope.

“(Playing) in the first few rounds of the year is my hope.”

However, Joel remains confident of leading out Geelong for the Round 1 clash with Hawthorn despite an off-season that has seen him battle plantar fasciitis in his right foot, as well as undergoing minor surgery on his left one.

The plantar issue has all but ruled the skipper out of the NAB Challenge.

“I had one bad foot and I had a good foot going, but then I had two bad feet for a little while,” he told Bay93.9.

“I had a little accessory muscle in my left foot that just needed to come out and we cut that out.

“I’m up and running, though, and going OK at the moment.

“We’ve just got to keep it going that way and I’ll be right to go.”
