PORTARLINGTON has been boosted by the return of talented youngster Will Foott and the addition of veteran Ocean Grove defender Marcus Kellett.

Foott returns to Ron Evans Oval after four injury-interrupted seasons with Geelong West-St Peter’s where he managed 20 senior games, while Kellett, who played under Demons’ coach Matthew Sproule in his first stint with the Grubbers, was part of grand final appearances in 2007 and 2014.

“We’ve been focussed on getting former players back to the club and Will be a handy addition to our midfield,” Sproule said.

“He’s played some GFL senior footy and that experience will be crucial for us.”

Kellett, who has experience at VFL level with Coburg, and also played at Melton South and Keilor, managed just two games in 2015 after breaking his ankle in the 2014 decider.

“I’ve coached him for about eight of his senior seasons, so I know exactly what I’m going to get from him,” Sproule said.

“He’ll provide us with plenty of direction down back.”

The Demons, who haven’t played finals since 1994, finished with five wins in 2015, beating arch-rival Drysdale twice and also claiming an early-season victory over Queenscliff that proved costly in the wash-up for the Coutas as they missed the finals by one game.

Portarlington opens its season on Easter Saturday at home against Newcomb.
