FORMER Melbourne small forward Austin Wonaeamirri appears set to join Bellarine league club Modewarre.

A picture of Wonaeamirri being presented with a Warriors training singlet on coach Josh Finch’s Facebook page says “Welcoming Aussie Wonaeamirri to the Modewarre F.C for 2016 season”.

Wonaeamirri played 31 games and kicked 37 goals in four seasons with the Demons, earning cult figure status, before being delisted at the end of 2011.

The 27-year-old has played with Finch at the Tiwi Bombers in the NTFL for the past two seasons.

“We’re absolutely stoked to get him,” Finch told K rock Football.com.au from Darwin Airport he had just played in the Bombers loss to Wanderers.

“He will be genuine fly-in, fly-out player, but he will here for most of June.  We think he will play around 7-9 games.

“We think he will generate some excitement around the club and in the BFL.

Finch hasn’t ruled out further signings from the Northern Territory, where the three-time Ash medallist has made some handy contacts during his two stints in the Top End.

Modewarre opens its 2016 campaign with a trip to Anglesea on Easter Saturday.
