Eagles to honour 1970s stars

In the lead-up to its 150th anniversary in 2029, East Geelong will announce its first football Team of the Decade this Saturday, in conjunction with a reunion of past players reunion at Richmond Crescent.

The day will commemorate the club’s 1973 GDFL Division 1 senior premiership team, 1993 GDFL Division 2 senior premiership team, and 2003 reserves premiership team and announce its Team of the 1970s.

“The 1993 premiership victory is a great story, as we overhauled a 33-point three-quarter-time deficit to win by 12 points,” event organiser, 1993 team member and the club’s senior football coordinator Michael O’Leary said.

The club will announce another Team of the Decade each year, culminating with its best Team of the past 60 years (1970-2029) to celebrate its sesquicentennial in 2029.

Saturday’s event kicks off with the announcement of the Team of the 1970s between 2:30-3pm.
