CONFIRMATION a former Essendon rookie will play with Newtown & Chilwell and the departure of a St Joseph’s premiership star has highlighted the first day of local clearances.

The Eagles will be strengthened by the arrival of Tim O’Keefe, who has been a star with Seymour in the Goulburn Valley league, while the Joeys have suffered a blow with Jordan Keras joining NEAFL club Southport.

Also in the GFL, Josh Ponting will return to Tasmania after 11 games with Geelong West-St Peter’s.

The nephew of former Australian cricket captain Ricky, Ponting was limited to just 11 games after suffering compartment syndrome.

Fellow Rooster Will Foott is headed back to junior club Portarlington.

In the GDFL, talented Winchelsea youngster Jye Price is headed to Colac league club Western Eagles to play under dad Paul.

Also set to depart Eastern Reserve for the Eagles is Graeme McFarlane

However, the Blues have denied 2013 best and fairest Kane Bonner’s request for a clearance to Belmont Lions.

The Lions have added brothers Shane and Jack Baker from Corio. Their dad George was president of the Devils in 2015.

Like Bonner, the Baker brothers have also had their transfer application knocked back.

Werribee Centrals brothers Tyren and Brayden Montebruno are headed for North Footscray.
