NORTH Geelong may have gone some of the way to filling the void left by star forward Jamie Pitman after signing South Australian Anthony Kilsby.

The athletic Kilsby arrives at Osborne Park from Kalangadoo in the Mid South Eastern league where kicked 87 goals in 19 games last year and 73 in 17 matches in 2014.

Prior to that he played with North Gambier in the Western Border league where was part of consecutive premierships in 2012-13, kicking 50 and 37 majors in those respective years.

“Going by his stats, he knows how to kick a goal. He’s kicked something like 160 in the last two years,” Magpies coach Daniel Kee said.

“Fingers crossed he can stay fit and give us a target up forward.

“He’s probably a bit like ‘Froggy’ (Paul Breguet) the way he moves.

The return of Luke van Krieken from Colac league club Forrest will also provide North Geelong with another forward option.

He kicked 41 goals when the Magpies won the flag in 2013.

“He’s super fit at the moment so we’re looking at running him through a midfield rotation, possibly on the wing,” Kee said.

“He’s a premiership player who’s a proven goal-kicker, so he’ll definitely spend some (time) up forward.”

Kee believes the departure of Pitman to GFL club St Albans, after kicking 126 goals and winning the Whitley Medal in 2015, will make North Geelong less predictable.

“In the two finals we lost last year, we got read like a book just going to ‘Pitty’,” Kee said.

“As much as we spoke about not having him as our main focus every time, it’s just natural to kick it to a guy who’s kicking all the goals.

“Spreading the load is something we’ll definitely be looking at this year.

“The way we’ve recruited, (and) a few positional changes, we think we’ll help with that.”
