TALENTED forward Daniel Maloney has become the latest Ocean Grove youngster to try his hand at GFL level after signing with reigning premier St Joseph’s.

He is the third Grubber from 2015  to signal his intention to have a crack at country football’s No.1 competition in 2016 following Andy Higgins (St Albans) and Jack Rawlings (Bell Park).

Maloney has kicked 221 goals in 84 senior games for the Grubbers since 2009, including 69 goals from 17 matches this year.

Joey coach Heath Jamieson has played down the BFL Team of the Year member filling the role made vacant by Paul Carson’s move to Inverleigh.

“People will say he is a perfect replacement for Paul,” Jamieson said.

“But we won’t be putting an pressure on Dan. We will let him find his feet and make his own mark.”

Jamieson also confirmed the return of former Geelong Falcon Daniel Semmens from Ballarat league club East Point.

Semmens, who is part of Geelong’s VFL training squad, was poised to play at Joeys in 2015 before university commitments intervened.
