TALENTED Koroit brothers Ben and Sam Dobson have signed with GFL club St Mary’s.

For Ben, it will be his second stint at the Saints after spending 2014 at West Kardinia before returning home to play a key role in the Hampden league Saints’ second straight premiership.

Both Ben (Essendon) and Sam (Geelong) are both hoping to find their way on to VFL lists, with both having had previous experience at state league level.

“They’re obviously both committed to doing the VFL pre-season, and both pretty keen to have an impact at VFL level, so I don’t know how often we’ll have them,” St Mary’s co-coach Bryce Vincent said.

However, if they fail to win a berth or are not selected by the Bombers or Cats during the season, they will be welcome additions at St Mary’s.

The pair were both selected in the HFL Team of the Year in 2015, with Ben named as ruck-rover and Sam, who kicked 65 goals in 12 games, chosen at full-forward.

“Sam’s a mobile forward, (he) gets around the ground pretty well, not your traditional centre-half forward or full forward,” Vincent said.

“He can play on a wing or even push to half back or into the midfield if required.”

Vincent also confirmed the signing of athletic Geelong Amateur star Richy Kangars, who is also hoping to win a spot on with the Cats’ VFL side.

Jordy Duncan will also play with St Mary’s in 2016 after sitting out this year after failing to win a clearance from GFL rivals South Barwon.

However, former Essendon and Fremantle star Adam McPhee won’t add to the five games he played with the club in 2015.

MEANWHILE, Colac has missed out on Tom Simpkin returning to the club following his delisting by St Kilda.

A week after brother Jonathan signed with Eastern league powerhouse Balwyn, Tom has chosen to play with the Saints’ VFL alignment partner Sandringham.
