WITH their start to 2016 delayed as a result of suspensions from last year’s grand final win over Torquay, Geelong Amateur duo Baden Dodd and Kane Smith made a later start to pre-season training.

Dodd will miss the opening six rounds and Smith the first five after being banned for striking Tiger Jarrod Mather.

Dodd, who maintains his innocence, received an eight-week suspension, reduced to six on appeal, while Smith was handed a five-week holiday after pleading guilty to his charge.

“We pushed their pre-season back a month,” coach Rowan McSparron said.

“They’re both back into full training now.

“We didn’t want them to come back to the club when everyone else started and be sick of the place by Round 2.

“We’ve been pretty mindful of that and the boys have been good with it.”

McSparron says Ammos have moved on from the events of grand final day and are now focused on the new season.

“There really hasn’t been any talk of it around the place,” he said.

“The boys are just looking forward to having a good year and they can see that if all things go well and we stay fit and upright, we can have another crack at it.

“They can see that we’ve got a good list together again, so they want to be part of it, which is fantastic for us as a footy club to have those two blokes keen to go again even missing a quarter of the year.

Smith will be available for selection for the Round 6 meeting with Portarlington, while Dodd can make his return the following week against Newcomb.
