THE return of Sean O’Neill is among a number of handy signings confirmed by GDFL club Thomson.

O’Neill, who last played with the Tigers in 2012, has spent the last three seasons with Colac Imperials, sharing the Jack Mahoney Medal as CDFL best and fairest with Khan Beckett last year.

The quality midfielder was appointed coach of the Cats in September, but work commitments forced him to step down last month.

“Everyone’s really excited to get good guys back to the club,” co-coach Reece Holwell said.

“He’s not only a really good footballer but he knows a lot of guys, so it’s been quite easy for him to come back and step straight back into it.”

Holwell says they’ve been trying to get O’Neill back to the club since he and Brent Taylor took on the senior coaching role at the end of 2014.

“We had a bit of crack at him last year,” Holwell said.

“We spoke to him a couple of times and we actually thought we were a pretty good chance to get him back before he took the coaching job.”

As well as playing with Thomson, O’Neill was a member of Newcomb’s 2007 BFL premiership side.

The Tigers have also added Forrest trio Rob Sims, Alex Denham and Andrich De la Cruz.

All three joined the Lions last year from Geelong West, following former Cheetahs coach Nick Washington.

However, they have chosen Godfrey Street over Bakers Oval as 2016 new home following Forrest’s decision to go into recess.

Thomson opens its 2016 campaign with a home against Werribee Centrals on April 2.
