MELBOURNE has made further changes to its list with Alex Georgiou axed after a year on club’s rookie list and Neville Jetta upgraded.

Taken with pick 35 in last year’s Rookie Draft from SANFL club Norwood, the 24-year-old Georgiou played the opening seven rounds of 2014 for the Demons but failed to see any more AFL action.

“Alex wanted to challenge himself at the highest level after winning two premierships at Norwood,” Melbourne football boss Josh Mahoney said.

“He made personal and financial sacrifices, leaving a successful career and moving interstate.

“He leaves the club having played seven AFL games and knowing that he has made a lasting impression on players and coaches with his attitude ‘to make the most of your AFL opportunity’.”

Jetta returns to the senior list after a year as a rookie.

He played 16 games in 2014.

“Neville Jetta has adopted this same attitude [to making the most of his opportunities] and has earned an upgrade to the primary list for the next two years, following an excellent 2014 season,” Mahoney said.

Meanwhile, midfielder James Harmes and ruckman Max King have earned a second year as rookies.

The Demons have now said farewell to eight players from this season’s list, including James Frawley (Hawthorn), Mitch Clark (Geelong) and Shannon Byrnes (retired).
