GFL:

Colac has overcome a slow start to defeat Newtown & Chilwell in today’s elimination final at West Oval.

The Tigers found themselves more than four goals in arrears early in the second quarter, but piled on eight majors before half time to take a 21-point lead into the main break.

James Linton starred with four goals, while key forwards Jake McGuane and Jake Carmody kicked three goals apiece, with Colac to now meet St Mary’s in a first semi-final at Simonds Stadium.

Luke Forbes kicked four goals for the Eagles and Matt McMahon and Jarrod McCorkell two apiece. Former Geelong and St. Kilda player Ryan Gamble and big man Renn Bogan were their best.

In more good news for the Tigers, coach Paul Lynch expects Andrew Kelly to return from concussion for the clash with the Saints.

GDFL:

A stunning second half comeback has seen Inverleigh into a preliminary final for just the second time since the club reformed in 2002.

The Hawks trailed East Geelong by 43 points at the main break before kicking 12.5 to 2.5 from that point on to win by 17 points, 16.8 (104) to 12.15 (87).

They were still facing a 20-point deficit at the last change, but slammed on seven goals in the final term to book a meeting with Bell Post Hill in the preliminary final.

Veteran Billy Nicholls and Ryan Garrard both kicked four goals for the Hawks.

Eagles’ playing coach Ricky O’Toole, veteran midfielder Clayton Trotter and young forward Tyler Jones kicked two goals apiece.

BFL:

Torquay has ended Queenscliff’s hopes of a record-equalling fourth straight BFL premiership with a 45-point win in the first semi-final at Portarlington.

The Tigers led at every change before a 6.0 to 3.5 final quarter provided the exclamation mark on a victory that earns Craig McCaughan’s men another crack at Ocean Grove in the preliminary final.

Despite going into the clash without the suspended Ty Zantuck, Torquay’s multi-pronged attack of Matt Johnston, Isaac Baker and former Sydney Swan Luke Vogels kicked four goals apiece.

At the other end Daniel DeGois finished with four goals to pass the century mark for the season.
