WERRIBEE hopes the presence of Daniel Menzel in Geelong’s VFL team in tomorrow’s clash will ease some of the financial impact of having to shift its opening round clash with the Cats

The Tigers were fixtured to start the VFL season under lights at Avalon Airport Oval on April 17, but were forced to move the game down the highway to Simonds Stadium due to the state of the centre wicket area.

“We budgeted for that to be our biggest game of the year,” Werribee chief Mark Penaluna said.

“But having Dan Menzel playing here, that creates a lot more interest as well.”

Menzel will play his first game for Geelong in more than two years after undergoing a fourth knee reconstruction in the clash with Werribee.

With a 1pm bounce, a large continget of Cats supporters are expected to turnout at the Tigers’ home ground on their way to Etihad Stadium for the AFL team’s meeting with North Melbourne .

“Within the Werribee area there’s a lot of Geelong supporters and members,” Penaluna said.

Cats’ patron Frank Costa and Australian cricket great Merv Hughes, who played with the Tigers in 1980s, will be among the guest speakers at the President’s Lunch.

Limited tickets remain. Call 9741 6688 for more details.
