WERRIBEE captain Michael Sodomaco has re-signed with the club for 2016.

The Lara product, who played 10 games in 2015 for a total of 43 at VFL senior level with the Tigers, had no hesitation in putting pen to paper for a sixth season at Avalon Airport Oval.

“It was an easy decision to sign on for season 2016,” he said.

“First and foremost, this is a club with great people who have made my previous five years here thoroughly enjoyable.

“The club is supported by fantastic staff who leave no stone unturned in their efforts to help every player develop as people and footballers.”

Sodomaco is looking forward to changes that will come as Werribee enters a full alignment with AFL club North Melbourne.

“The club is also entering a very exciting phase on the field and my unwavering belief is that everything is in place for an assault on the premiership race,” he said.

“We have been building towards this for a number of seasons and have put together an exciting, young list of players who are all committed to taking the club forward.”

Coach John Lamont welcomed news of Sodomaco’s re-signing.

“Michael had a tough initiation into the captaincy with a leg injury through the pre-season and then a serious hamstring injury on the eve of the season,” Lamont said.

“He wanted to be out there with the boys but was stuck in the rehab group. He returned to the team after a couple of weeks in the Development team and really started to lead the boys well.

“Michael has the respect of the playing group and I really look forward to working with him to drive some positive outcomes for the playing group.”

Werribee commences pre-season on November 9.
