GEELONG will have a youth focus among its VFL contingent in Saturday’s final round clash with Northern Blues at Simonds Stadium.

With nothing but pride to play for, and with an eye on 2016, the Cats will give some youngsters a chance to shine.

“This week we’ve got the chance to bring Zak Sherman back, have another look at Zak, and help him with some focusses for the pre-season,” coach Paul Hood said.

“Steve Bensted from Drysdale’s going to come into the squad as well, and we’ll have another look at him and give him some real focusses for his summer.

“Nick Dixon plays another game and Cam Tudor will get some more time in the midfield as well as in defence.

“All of those guys have got aspects of their game they can continue to build on.”

George Horlin-Smith has been dropped from the senior side, while Mathew Stokes (rested) and Billie Smedts (illness) are also back, giving Geelong 12 AFL-listed players.

However, Cam Delaney (knee) will be sidelined.

Hood says the game plan will be simple.

“We just want to be competitive, like we have been every other week,” he said.

“If that means we win, fantastic, that’s obviously the ultimate goal every game, but we want to be competitive and we want to build the consistency of good habits.

“Nothing changes for our young, developing players.. Every time they play and pull the Hoops on, they try and become a better player.”

Meanwhile. Werribee will be looking to put a tough week behind it when it meets fellow finalist Footsrcay.

The Tigers are mourning the loss of president John Nicol during the week and will look to honour his memory by claiming the four points and taking some momentum into the finals.
