Roos ruin Warriors’ day

Modewarre went into the BFNL Elimination Final at Portarlington on Sunday confident of a win against Anglesea, after soundly beating the Roos the previous week, but injuries in the first half and a hard-charging third quarter from the Roos saw the Warriors bundled out with a 32-point loss.

The Warriors led at the first two changes but lost two of their key players to injury, with co-captain Jeremy Ollis breaking his thumb in the first quarter and Callan Farrell out with a fractured foot.

“I thought we were really good in the first half,” Modewarre co-coach Chris Carlon said.

“We were obviously in front at quarter time and at half time I thought we were playing quite well, but the floodgates opened, we got pretty tired in the second half, just not having enough rotations on the bench.”

The Roos stormed into the third quarter against the depleted Warriors, kicking 7.7 to turn their two-point half-time deficit into a 33-point lead at the final break.

Anglesea now takes on Drysdale, who had a narrow two-point loss to Barwon Heads at Portarlington on Saturday, in the Semi Final this Sunday, while Barwon Heads clash with minor premiers Torquay this Saturday in the second Qualifying Final.
