The Anglesea Football Netball Club is no stranger to hosting the Kagaroos, but Roos of a different breed have hit up the Surf Coast for an important training camp.

North Melbourne is visiting the region with Alastair Clarkson putting his players through their paces as part of a three-day training camp.

Kanagroos gun forward Nick Larkey said the camp is giving his teammates their first real taste of what ‘Clarko’ has to offer as coach.

“He’s teaching us his game plan really so it’s been quite hands on, but he’s also really good at letting everyone do their roles as well,” he said.

“He’s bought some really experienced heads, great coaches on board so we’re lucky at the moment.”

Larkey said the prospect of working under Clarkson, who’s consistently hailed as one of the modern-day great coaches hasn’t been too intimidating.

The forward was a self-confessed Hawthorn tragic as a kid, the side Clarkson coached to four premierships during his 17 year tenure.

Larkey said it’s been surreal watching a childhood hero in action.

“I grew up a massive Hawks fan.

“I’ve even sat there thinking like, when he’s speaking just thinking back to watching Hawthorn games when he was coaching and to think that he’s coaching me now is unbelievable.”

The club kicked off it’s three-day camp in Anglesea and Torquay on Monday.
