Fixture changes likely

BELLARINE and Geelong league clubs have been warned to prepare for a re-fixturing of the remainder of their respective seasons following Victoria’s latest COVID-related lockdown.

AFL Barwon has contacted clubs to make them aware of their plans, which would enable everyone to play each other once.

Confirmation is expected in the coming days.

In the BFL, this weekend’s round of matches would have been the last of the first-time match-ups for 2021 after those clubs were initially scheduled to play each other in Round 9.

If the season resumes next Saturday and the grand final remains on September 4, there will be three home-and-away rounds remaining.

GFL clubs still have three rounds to play to ensure they play each other once, with only five weekends now available before finals start, if the grand final remains on September 18.

Both the BFL and GFL seasons appear likely to be 14-round seasons.

The GDFL has no issues. Following the last lockdown, the GDFL resumed its season since where it ended.

It was set to be a 16-round season, but that is now likely to be reduced to 15.
