GEELONG has named one of its strongest teams of the VFL season as it looks to avoid seven consecutive losses for the first time in more than a decade

The Cats, whose longest in-season losing streak in the state league came in 2011, face Coburg at Ballarat’s Mars Stadium on Sunday in a match moved from GMHBA Stadium.

Midfielder Brandan Parfitt has been named for his first game at any level since suffering a broken hand against the Western Bulldogs on June 3

He is also an emergency for Saturday night’s AFL clash with the Dogs, with AFL coach Chris Scott not ruling him out of being the medi-sub.

“He’ll get some game time this weekend, no matter what,” Scott said.

“We haven’t quite landed on exactly where that’s going to fit with the 22 and the medi-sub.

“The last time Parfitt played was Round 12 against the Bulldogs pre-bye, so we’re looking forward to him getting back.”

Like Parfitt, Sam Menegola was named as an AFL emergency and in the VFL team.

However, for the second time this season, knee soreness after being sidelined following a concussion has sidelined the winger.

“He missed the week with concussion, and it seemed it was going to be all systems go, but his knee’s just flared a little bit at training,” Scott said.

Meanwhile, Geelong’s final round clash with Port Melbourne has been confirmed for Sunday, August 21, at GMHBA Stadium.

The bounce is at 1:05pm.
